However, one area where you shouldn’t be creative is in the
area of product claims. Amway Global employs skilled product
teams to determine just what claims anyone can make about a
product. The group includes R&D scientists, marketers,
packagers, label writers, promotional writers, packaging
designers, regulatory experts, and attorneys who hash out
exactly what can be said or printed. They work out what can
be claimed on product packaging, product labels, literature,
websites, product demonstrations, and anywhere else a
product will be promoted. These are experts in their fields,
and they do all the detailed ground work so you don’t have
to.
No one likes to buy a product and be told it will do
something, only to find out it can’t do that. Not only is it
unethical to make false claims, it’s illegal. For that
reason, we are guided by Rule 4.4.1 of the Rules of Conduct:
IBOs shall not make exaggerated product claims or
non-guaranteed claims with regards to the Corporation’s
products or products distributed by the Corporation.
There are lots of ways to be creative with products: There
is how you demonstrate them, how you promote them together,
even how you price them, just to mention a few. However, you
cannot vary the claims, which have been optimized by experts
for this market before the products leave the warehouse.
When you retail products, enjoy yourself and be creative –
but stick to the product claims.
