"A new name. A new business model. A new era for Independent Business Owners across
North America."
All the above marked the October meeting for the Board of the recently renamed
Independent Business Owners Association International. Convening in Grand Rapids, Mich., the
IBOA International Board focused on a typically wide variety of issues and initiatives.
In the forefront was the exciting new e-commerce business model, launched in September. All Board members contributed to a detailed analysis and series of recommendations on all aspects of e-commerce: site navigation, the shopping experience, the registration process, specials, promotions, brand names and partner stores.
Other topics under review during the meeting included new products and services, IBO/Member affiliations, enhancements to the North American Growth Program, adherence to and enforcement of Web site rules, and leveraging new technologies such as high-speed Internet access.
A highlight of the October meeting was the presentation to Board member and Past President
Jerry Meadows of the first annual
Joe Victor Award. The award, named for one of the
Association's founding members, is to be presented yearly to the Board member who exhibits such qualities as integrity, honesty, loyalty and character. Helyne Victor, who with her husband,
Joe, were true pioneers in this business, spoke briefly during the presentation.
Also honored during the Closing General Session were Board members retiring at the end of three-year terms: Craig Bishop,
Brad Duncan, Jim Elliott,
Terry Felber, Hal Gooch, Randy Haugen,
Jerry Meadows,
Paul Miller, Glenn Shoffler and Barbara Waters.
Finally, President
Paul Miller summed up the many accomplishments of this year's Board, which included the dynamic e-commerce business model, improvements in income representations, all-new means of entry into the business and changes in award and recognition programs.
Yes—a new name, new business model and new era. However, what remains, stronger than ever, is the deep commitment to supporting the interests of all IBOs in North America.
