As
might be expected, the tragic events of Sept. 11 were a somber backdrop at the
October meeting of the
IBOA International Board.
Yet, as has happened with so many people in so many places and
in so many ways, the members of the Board experienced a strengthened
spirit of unity and a renewed sense of purpose.
In
fact, the stated values of the
Independent Business Owners Association
International seemed to ring truer than ever:
1.
We believe in free enterprise.
2.
We believe integrity can never be compromised.
3.
We choose to see the good in people and focus on the bright side
of tomorrow.
4.
We value experience and honest hard work.
5.
We respect diversity and promote unity.
Although
it wasn’t "business as usual" at this meeting, the Board focused
and acted on the typically wide variety of issues affecting the business.
Specifically, it recommended—and
Amway Global / Quixtar approved—granting
an
Award Month in September for qualifiers (under certain conditions), due
to the effects on business from the terrorist attacks. The Board also reviewed
new marketing initiatives and product education programs, the
2002-03 Sales Incentive Program, enhancements to the
Amway Global / Quixtar site, refinements
to the Rules of Conduct, and more.
A
new award, the
Jere Dutt Lifetime Achievement Award named in honor
of one of the
Association’s founders – was bestowed upon
Dexter Yager, President’s Cabinet Member.
Officers
of the 2002
IBOA International Board were elected and announced:
Don Wilson, President;
Jerry Meadows, Vice President; and
Fred
Harteis, Secretary/Treasurer. Newly elected Board members beginning
three-year terms on Jan. 1, 2002 are
Brad
Duncan,
Fred Harteis,
Don Held,
Joe Markiewicz,
Scott Michael,
Rex Renfrow,
Dan
Williams,
and
Jeff
Yager.
So
while it couldn’t be business as usual, the Board carried forth its
commitment to uphold the principles of this business and ensure that
the opportunity is stronger than ever.
