A “magic potion…” the “silver bullet…” your “ace up the
sleeve.”
Wouldn’t it be great if you could tell from
someone’s profession if he or she would make a successful
Independent Business Owner (IBO)? That would be great, but a
little research shows that successful IBOs come from all
walks of life.
Most frequently listed occupations
For instance, it might surprise you to learn that in a
recent issue of ACHIEVE™ magazine, the most common
occupations among newly qualified Platinums were homemaker,
housewife, wife & mother, and home-school mom, followed by
teacher, professor, or college faculty. Nearly as many were
managers of various kinds. Not far behind were engineers,
business men and women, accountants, nurses, salespersons,
and then administrative professionals, computer/IT
professionals, and various kinds of technicians. Then there
were students and construction workers.
Next most-frequently listed occupations
There weren’t as many, but next highest on the list, in
numerical order, were real estate professionals, sales
professionals, and attorneys. There were also banking
professionals, doctors of pharmacy, field workers,
firefighters, military officers, master plumbers, mortgage
bankers or brokers, project managers, secretaries, and
travel professionals. Also the self employed, supervisors,
and truck drivers.

Compiling this list
This list resulted from combing through the Platinum
recognition pages of a recent
ACHIEVE™ magazine and noting
the number of times each occupation was listed under the
name of a new qualifier. We used the occupations as listed,
except where it made sense to combine similar occupations
(such as various kinds of teachers). This survey included
108 Independent Business Owners (IBOs) with 165 professions.
