Ready for cold and flu season? You can be! First, be
cautious. Then, be armed!
Here’s an amazing statistic!
A mere 32 percent of American adults wash their hands after
coughing or sneezing*. Yet colds and the flu are easily
spread by contact. So do something about it!
Be Cautious…
Be
cautious and don’t give germs a place to spread. Keep
surfaces clean, and remind your family of these important
recommendations from the U.S.
Centers for Disease Control:
-
Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing…
-
Wash your hands often with soap and water…
-
Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth…
The
Ontario (Canada) Ministry of Health
and Long-Term Care recommends washing your hands
at least five times a day and keeping hand sanitizers handy
at work, at home, and in the car.
Some
common things you might not think to clean more frequently:
-
Phones – speakers, microphones, dialers, cell phones
-
Remote controls – TV, VCR/DVD/cable/satellite, radio,
stereo
-
Door handles – doors, cabinets, refrigerators, microwave
ovens, dishwashers
-
Computers/laptops – keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner
cover
-
Video games – console, joystick, controllers, game
cartridges
-
Music players – CD player, iPod, portable radios
-
Entertainment containers – CD, DVD, and VHS storage
boxes
-
Books/magazines – covers especially, with a lightly
dampened cloth
-
Toys, games, and other hard-surfaced items shared
between family members
-
Shopping carts and baskets
